The average tax penalties for persons who remain without health insurance coverage in 2016

- $969 for all those eligible to buy a Marketplace health plan in 2016, versus $661 in 2015
- $738 for those who qualify for the Marketplace premium subsidy, versus $389 in 2015
- $1,450 for those eligible to buy Marketplace health plan, but not for a subsidy, versus $1,177 in 2015
