- 17.5% of patients with an initial admission for sepsis had a 30-day readmission to the hospital
- 22.86% of these readmissions were caused by sepsis
- The median time to readmission was 11 days
- The mean cost per sepsis readmission within 30 days of discharge was $16,852
- The annual cost of sepsis readmissions in the U.S. is $3.5 billion
