5 Health Insurers Report Q1 Profit

- UnitedHealth Group- Earnings in the first quarter of fiscal year 2014 fell 7.8 percent, from approximately $1.2 billion in 2013 to $1.1 billion this year
- WellPoint- Net income dropped nearly 21 percent, from $885.2 million in 2013 to $701 million this year
- Humana- A 22.2 percent drop in first-quarter net income, from $473 million in 2013 to $368 million this year
- Aetna- Net income rose 36 percent year-over-year, from $490.1 million in 2013 to $665.5 million this year
- Cigna- First-quarter net income rose more than 800 percent, from $57 million in 2013 to $528 million this year
